The easiest question in the world
one day , a rich man met Sam. the rich man asked , " I`ve heard you are very clever and nothing is difficult to you. Can you tell me why you are so clever."
Sam answered, "I`m not clever, but you are too silly." The rich man became very angry.
Sam said, "Sir, please don`t be angry, if you don`t believe what I said, let me ask you a question now. If you have a group of sheep, I give you another group. How groups of sheep do you have?"
"Why, that`s the easiest question in the world, one and one is two.Anybody knows that. I have two groups of sheep. "
Sam laughed and said," You are wrong, sir.two groups of sheep put together is still one group. That is easiest question in the world."

I`ll not go home tonight because of the rain
When a friend was visiting David, it began to rain. So David told him not to go home that night."You may stay here for the night," he said." Ok, " answered his friend. But a few minutes later, the friend went out. He didn`t tell David where he was going nor did he ask for an umbrella. When David was about to go to bed, his friend returned, he was all wet through.
"Where have you been?" asked David. "I have been home," answered the friend, " to tell my brother that I`ll not go home tonight because of the rain."

Why do I want to go to college?
Why do I want to go to college? No one asked me such a question. But many times I have asked myself.I have come up with a whole variety of reasons. The most important reason is that I want to be a better man.
Many things make human beings different is education. If i fail to receive higher education, my education will not finish. As I want to be a fully developed , I must get a well-rounded education, which good colleges and universities are supposed to provide.
I know one can get educated in many ways, but colleges and universities are among the best places to teach me how to educate myself. Only when I am well-educated, will I be a better human being and be fit into society.

Children should not have to do heavy work
It is not a good idea for children to have to work hard. Children should study in school as hard as they can. They should not have to do heavy work with their bodies. When parents or others force children to work hard, the results are never good and may be very bad.
A farmer`s son who has to work hard like a man may early learn to hate farming. Children sometimes do too much work in gardens, in shops or even in their own own homes.
They soon begin to hate such kind of work with force that can destroy their happiness. But there may be a worse loss: a child`s love for his parents. The feeling may become something different. When that happens, the old kind of love never returns.

The effect of the blood group on personality
Your blood group hides no secrets, it shows the "real you." If you belong to blood group O, you can get things done and sell the goods well. Blood group A are the thinkers, while blood group B are highly creative, people belonging to blood group B might be good at painting and writing. And if you have problems, ask the ABs to solve them.
Your blood group could affect your work. So if you visited the Japanese company, you would find the O types out selling goods and A types keeping order in the office.

Dogs
People often say that a dog is man's best friend. Over thousands of years, man has taught his dogs to do many kinds of work besides guarding the home. For example, sheepdogs are famous for their ability to control a flock of hundreds of sheep.
Dogs have been used to aid disabled people for centuries. A guide dog can lead its blind owner. Nowadays, dogs can be taught to turn on light switches, open refrigerator doors and dial the telephone for their disabled owners. For the majority of people, however, dogs are simply pets and friends for both young and old members of the family.

Perfect Match
A rich woman is so proud of a valuable antique vase that she decides to have her bedroom painted the same color as the vase. Several painters try to mix the color right, but none comes close enough to satisfy the woman.
Eventually, a painter comes. He is confident that he can mix the proper color. The woman is pleased with the result, and the painter becomes famous. Years later, he retires and turns the business over to his son. "Dad,"asks the son, "there's something I've got to know. How did you get those walls to match the vase so perfectly?" "Son,” the father replies, "I painted the vase."

A Joke— “I stand corrected”
I have this friend who always seemed to lean slightly to the left all the time. It used to bother me, so I suggested he see a doctor, and have his legs checked out. For years, he refused and told me I was crazy, but last week, he finally went. Sure enough, the doctor discovered his left leg was a quarter inch shorter than his right. A quick bit of surgery later, he was cured, and both legs are exactly the same length now, and he no longer leans. “So,”I said, "You didn't believe me when I told you a doctor could fix your leg. He just looked at me and said, "I stand corrected.

When you read an English book, you often come across new words. You might try to guess what the words mean from the words you know, but when you cannot guess the meanings of new words at all, what should you do?
You have a good friend then. From him you can learn what a word means, how to pronounce a word, how to use a word, and so on. This friend can always be with you, and you can always ask him to help you. Do you know who this friend is? It is a dictionary. You can learn some important things about words from it, so you must know how to use it.

The Hare and the Tortoise
One day a hare was telling the other animals how fast he could run. "I can beat anyone!"cried he. "Will one of you try a race with me?"
"I will,?said the tortoise.
"You!?laughed the hare. "Oh, oh, how funny!?
"Save your laughing for the end of the race,?said the tortoise.
So a starting line was made, and away they went. The hare ran fast and was soon far ahead, so he sat down to rest. By the time the tortoise came up, the hare was sleeping.
On and on went the tortoise, and when the hare looked up at last, it was too late.
There sat the tortoise by the sign that said: The End.

1
English Language
I m interested in English. English is a very important language. It is widely used all over the world. If you travel around the world, you’ll find English everywhere. It is widely used for business between different countries. If you know English, you can enjoy many books. It s really a bridge to much knowledge.
I have learned many English words. I hope I can talk with foreigners in English and let them know our country better. Some people say the world is smaller than before.
2
An Unforgettable Challenge
When I was ten years old, I began to chat with foreigners. But I was very shy. Gradually, I became more and more confident with foreigners’ help. The following year, I went to Yangzhou with two foreigners. I became their guide. First, we came into the Shouxi River. They wanted to look around the river by boat. I told them the price. Then we got into the boat. When we looked out at the sight, we all felt very beautiful. After that, they went to buy souvenirs. The sellers couldn’t speak English. Though it was very hard, I tried my best to listen to their words carefully and translate the sentences. They bought some souvenirs with my help. Next, we went to a small zoo, and we took some photos. There were not many animals. When we felt hungry, we went out and had lunch. After lunch, we visited some old houses. They learned more about Chinese history.
This wasn’t only a big challenge but also an unforgettable challenge. This opportunity made me confident and brave.I hope I can catch many opportunities in the future, then I can speak English, because I think practice makes perfect.
3
My Dreams
I want to be a teacher when I listen to my teacher carefully. I think I can be a teacher when I grow up. I can help many students learn things well. I can play with my students, too. So we are good friends. I want to be a doctor when I see many doctors save their patients. To be a doctor is really great. I think I can be a doctor when I grow up. Then I can help many people out of danger. I will be the happiest girl in the world. I want to be a reporter when I watch TV every evening. We can get lots of important information from them. They make the world smaller and also make us happy. I would like to be a reporter when I
grow up. And I can learn a lot about China and the other countries around the world. I can meet many superstars as well.I have lots of dreams. I think my dreams can come true one day, because there’s an old saying “where there is a will, there is a way.”

My school day
Hi, I’m xxx. I'm 14 years old and I study in Laoshan School. My school is not very big. Every morning I get up at seven and have breakfast. And then I go to school at half past seven. At eight twenty, we begin our morning reading. Lessons begin at nine o’clock. We have four lessons in the morning and Chinese is my favourite lesson. We usually have 10 minute's break between two lessons and at about 12:30 we finish our morning lessons. I have lunch at school at twelve thirty, too. I like school lunch and I always have rice with meat and vegetables. After lunch I often talk with my friends or play basketball with them. In the afternoon lessons start at half past one and finish at four thirty. I play games after school with my friends and then go home at five. In the evening I do my homework and then watch TV. At ten o’clock I go to bed. It’s really a busy day but I like it.
5
Healthy eating
My name is xxx. I am 14 years old. I want to be a doctor when I grow up. To be a doctor, I must be healthy. It is important for a doctor to be healthy.
Before, I seldom ate vegetables. Because I disliked vegetables. I liked sweet snacks. They taste delicious but they are not good for me. They give me energy but they are not healthy. So I must change my diet. Now, I eat a bowl of rice for breakfast, and I often eat an egg. For lunch, I usually eat a bowl of soup, vegetables and a bowl of rice. I eat meat and vegetables for dinner. If I want to be healthier, I must exercise. So I changed my lifestyle. Now, I often exercise once a week. I do not eat snacks or fast food any more. So I think I am healthy. And I am very happy. I hope everybody is healthy and happy.
6
Eating taste
People in different parts of our country have very different ideas about what is good to eat. In our country, for example, people from the south like to eat rice, however, people living in the north prefer bread or noodles. The people of Hunan or Sichuan enjoy hot food. But people of Shanghai or Suzhou will choose sweet dish.
Even if people live in the same part of the country, their tastes may be very
different. Old people and young ones have different tastes; men and women also have their different preferences. In a restaurant, some customers order soups that is thick and heavy, while others drink soup that is thin and clear. A few people only eat vegetables. They don’t like fish or chicken.
Therefore, it is not easy for restaurants to satisfy the needs of all the customers. To increase their business, the restaurants in the cities try their best to make foods in different kinds and different styles. They sometimes add new names of dishes with different tastes to their menus for customers.
7
Protect our environment
As we all know, the environment around us is getting worse and worse .In some places we can’t see fish swimming in the river or trees on the hills. Some people even have no clean water to drink. So I think we must do something to
. .But what can we do? How to protect our environment? In fact, there are many things we can do. Firstly, we can go to school on foot or by bike and don’t throw rubbish everywhere. Secondly, we can use shopping baskets but not plastic bags when we go shopping. Last but not least, we can use both sides of the paper when we write. In a word, if everyone pays more attention to our environment, there will be less pollution and our life will be better.
“There is only one earth”, we should act at once. I hope everyone will protect our environment well.
8
Water
Water is very important for living things. Without water there can be no life on earth. All animals and plants need water. Man also needs water.
Water is found almost everywhere. Even in the driest part of the world
there is some water in the air.
As we all have found out, water may be a solid, or a liquid or a gas. When it is a solid, it may be as hard as stone, When it’s a liquid, you can pour it out of a container. When it is a gas, you cannot see or feel it.
Although about 70 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water, there are many places in the world still running out of water. So we should make good use of water on earth.

Be brave to the earthquake
Everyone has some unforgettable experiences. An earthquake
happened in Sichuan Province on Monday, May 12, 2008. It is the most
dangerous earthquake in Chinese history. Many people were killed. A large number of houses fell down. I was shocked. When I see theses picture on TV, my eyes were filled with tears.
Now, more and more people and volunteers go to disaster area to help people who are in trouble. I was moved. I wanted to do something for people in the disaster areas, too. I thought although I couldn’t go to Sichuan like the soldiers and the doctors, I still wanted to try my best to help them. I took out all my pocket money and threw it into the donation box.
I hope they can rebuild their homeland early. I believe that if every-one makes a contribution for our country, we can overcome any difficulties.
10
Freedom and Peace
Almost everyday we can see there are always a huge number of pigeons enjoying the sunbath in some large squares, but do you often care what a white pigeon stands for? That is peace.
For hundreds of years, people always regard pigeons as a represent of freedom and peace. That is because of not only its lovely pure figure, but also its great passion to the outside world. Till now, I still can't help thinking of such a picture: In Iraq, a boy was watching a white pigeon over his head. The background was full of wounded solders and guns. Thus, this lovely white pigeon was contrastive to this iced background and gave people a deep consideration. Suddenly, a thought comes into my mind: Why there have been so many wars in the world just for someone's own interest? Why can't people live like as mall pigeon with freedom? I hope there will not be wars,
FOREVER!

Far and away the most important holiday in China is Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year. To the Chinese people it is as important as Christmas to people in the West. The dates for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar, so the timing of the holiday varies from late January to early February.
To the ordinary Chinese, the festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Year's Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar
calendar. But the 15th of the first month, which normally is called the Lantern Festival, means the official end of the Spring Festival in many parts of the country.
