　Today we are launching a campaign called HeForShe 今天我們將啟動一項(xiàng) HeForShe 的倡議活動

　I am reaching out to you because we need your help,we want to end gender inequality 此番演講是為了獲得您的支持，能讓我們一道行動，終結(jié)性別不平等

　And to do this,we need everyone involved 實(shí)現(xiàn)這個(gè)目標(biāo)需要每個(gè)人的參與

　This is the first campaign of its kind at the UN 這次我們開創(chuàng)了聯(lián)合國發(fā)起的同類活動的先河

　 We want to try to galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change，and we don’t just want to talk about it,We want to try and make sure that it’s tangible 我們希望能接力號召盡可能多的男人和男孩們，加入到尋求改變的倡導(dǎo)者行列，我們也不想僅僅開出空頭支票，我們希望全力以赴，確保達(dá)成其實(shí)目標(biāo)

　I was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women six months ago，and the more I’ve spoken about feminism,the more I have realized that fighting for women ’s right has too often become synonymous with men-hating 六個(gè)月前，我被任命為聯(lián)合國婦女署的親善大使，但我越是提及女權(quán)主義,越是意識到爭取女性權(quán)益往往跟仇視男性混為一談

　I started questioning gender-based assumptions a long time ago 很久之前我就開始質(zhì)疑種種基于性別的預(yù)設(shè)

　When I was 8,I was confused about being called ”bossy”, because I wanted to direct the plays,that we would put on for our parents，but the boys were not 當(dāng)我 8 歲時(shí)，因?yàn)槲蚁刖幣沤o家長們的演出就被斥為“專橫”,而男孩不會受到同樣的指責(zé)

　When at 14,I started to be sexualised by certain elements of the media, 當(dāng)我 14 歲時(shí)，某些媒體開始渲染，我性感化的公眾形象

　When at 15 my girlfriends started dropping out of their beloved sports teams,because they didn’t want to appear

　I decided that I was a feminist，and this seems uncomplicated to me

　But my recent research has shown me that feminism has become an unpopular word，women are choosing not to identify as feminists. 但我近期的調(diào)查表明,女權(quán)主義已經(jīng)變?yōu)椴皇軞g迎的詞匯,女人們不愿意被認(rèn)為是女權(quán)主義者

　Apparently I am among the ranks of women whose expressions are seen as too strong “too aggressive”,isolating and anti-men,unattractive,even 很顯然我被列為那類女性,措辭強(qiáng)硬，過于激進(jìn)，自我封閉一味反對

　男性，甚至缺乏魅力

　Why has the word become such an uncomfortable one 為何這個(gè)詞已經(jīng)讓人如此不適

　I am form Britain,and I think it is wright that I am paid the same as my male counterparts,I think it is wright that I should be able to make decisions about my own body,I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and the decisions that affect my life,I think it is right that socially,I am afforded the same respect as men 我來自英國,我認(rèn)為我應(yīng)該獲得與我男性同行同等的資金待遇，我認(rèn)為我應(yīng)該擁有自主支配自己身體的權(quán)利，我認(rèn)為女性應(yīng)該代表我參與到能影響我生活的政策制定中，我認(rèn)為在社會上我也能贏得與男性同樣的尊重

　But sadly I can say that there is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights.No country in the world can yet say that they have achieved gender equality,these rights I consider to be human rights 遺憾的是，我可以說世界上任何一個(gè)國家的女性群體都未能完全擁有這些權(quán)利，至今無一國家能斷言,他們已經(jīng)實(shí)現(xiàn)了性別平等，這些權(quán)

　利我認(rèn)為就是人權(quán)

　But I am one of the lucky ones,my life is a sheer privilege, because my parents didn’t love me less because I was born a daughter,My school did not limit me because I was a girl,my mentor didn’t assume that I would go less far because I might give birth to a child one day 但我無疑是幸運(yùn)的，我一直享受著特殊待遇，因?yàn)槲业母改覆�沒有因?yàn)槲疑頌榕畠壕蜏p少對我的關(guān)愛，我就讀的學(xué)校也沒有因?yàn)槲沂桥�孩就加以限制，我的�?dǎo)師也沒有因?yàn)槲胰蘸髮�為人母而對我不予厚�?/p>

　These influencers were the gender equality ambassadors that made me who I am today,they may not know it,but they are the inadvertent feminists,we need more of those and if you still hate the word,it is not the word that is important,it’s the idea and the ambition behind it,because not all women have received the same rights that I have.In fact statistically very few have been 這些影響我的人們正如推廣性別平等的大使，是他們成就了今天的我，也許他們并沒有察覺，但他們就是那些“無心插柳”的女權(quán)主義者們。我們需要更多的這類人，如果你任然厭惡這個(gè)詞，那么其實(shí)詞本身不重要，重要的是詞背后傳遞的理念和愿景，因?yàn)椴⒉皇撬�有女性都�?/p>

　有和我一樣的權(quán)利。事實(shí)上從數(shù)據(jù)上看只有很少一部分女性擁有這樣的權(quán)利。

　In 1997 Hillary Clinton made a famous speech in Beijing about women ’s rights,Sadly many of the things that she wanted to change,are still true today.But what stood out for me the most was that less than 30 percent of the audience were male !997 年，希拉里克林頓在北京就女性權(quán)利發(fā)表了一次著名演講，遺憾的是很多當(dāng)時(shí)她力求改變的情況，在今天任然存在，但我更留意到男性觀眾少于 30％的事實(shí) How can we affect change in the world when only half of it is invited or feel welcome to participant in the conversation. 當(dāng)世界上只有一半人口收到邀請鼓勵(lì)加入到談話中，我們又怎能奢望改變這個(gè)世界呢

　Men I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal information,Gender equality is your issue too 男同胞們我想借此機(jī)會向你們發(fā)出正式邀請，性別平等也是你們的議題

　Because to date I’ve seen my father’s role as a parent being valued less by society,despite my needing his presence

　as a child as much as my mother’s 因?yàn)槭侵附袢眨�我見證到最為家長，父親的角色被社會所輕視,盡管孩童時(shí)代我需要父母給予同樣的關(guān)照

　I’ve seen young men suffering from mental illness unable to ask for help,for fear it would make them less of man ,or less of a man. 我看到年輕男性遭受心理疾病的折磨，而無法向外尋求幫助，因?yàn)楹ε逻@樣看起來不男人，被人瞧不起

　In fact in the U.K.suicide is the biggest killer of man between 20 to 49 eclipsing road accidents,cancer and coronary heart disease 事實(shí)上在英國，自殺已經(jīng)成為 20 到 49 歲男性的頭號殺手，超越交通事故，癌癥和冠心病

　I have seen men made fragile and insecure by a distorted sense of what constitutes male success,men don’t have the benefits of equality either 我目睹了男人們因?yàn)槌蔀槌晒δ腥诉@樣偏狹的觀念而變得脆弱和缺乏安全感，男人一樣沒能享受到平等帶來的福利

　We don’t often talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes,but I can see that they are 我們不常談到男性同樣，遭受性別刻板印象的禁錮，但我能察覺到這點(diǎn)

　When they are free things will change for women as a natural consequence,If men don’t have to be aggressive in order to be accepted,women won’t be compelled to be submissive,if men don;t have to control,women won’t have to be controlled 當(dāng)他們不受束縛時(shí)，女性的狀況就會自然而改變，如果男人不需要通過表現(xiàn)攻擊性來或得認(rèn)同，那么女人就不用逼迫自己顯得順從，如果男人沒必要實(shí)時(shí)掌控，那么女人也不需要聽命于掌控

　Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive,both men and women should feel free to be strong 不管是男是女都可以放任自己的銘感細(xì)膩，不管是男是女都可以培養(yǎng)自己的堅(jiān)強(qiáng)無畏

　It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals 如今我們應(yīng)該用更大的視野看待性別，而不是兩套對立的規(guī)范

　If we should stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by who we are,we can all be freer and this is what HeForShe is about,It’s about freedom 如果我們能不再通過消減異性的特征來定義自己，而開始正視自己所擁有的一切特質(zhì)，我們都將變得更自由，這就是 HeForShe 的意義所在，它與自由息息相關(guān)

　I want men to take up this mantle so their daughters sisters and mothers can be free from prejudice,but also so their sons have permission to be vulnerable and human too 我希望男同胞們能傳承這樣的信念，那么他們的女兒們，姐妹們和母親們都會免于遭受歧視，同時(shí)他們的兒子們也有權(quán)利釋放自己的脆弱和更人性化的一面

　We claim those parts of themselves they abandoned and in doing so be a more true and complete version of themselves 我們珍視他們所拋棄掉的那一部分人性我們這樣做是為了他們能夠保留更為真實(shí)和完整的人性

　You might be thinking who is this Harry Potter girl and what is she doing speaking at the U.N. And it’s really good question,I’ve been asking myself the same thing,All I know

　is that I care about this problem and I want to make it better,And having seen what I’ve seen,and given the chance,I fell it is my responsibility to say something

　你也許會問，這個(gè)哈利波特里 的女孩是干嘛的，她怎么會來聯(lián)合國發(fā)表演說，這真是個(gè)好問題，我也曾反復(fù)問自己同樣的問題，我只知道自己確實(shí)關(guān)心這個(gè)問題，也想盡綿薄之力改善現(xiàn)狀，既然親眼見到了這樣的現(xiàn)狀也獲得這樣的機(jī)會，我自覺有責(zé)任說些什么

　Statesmen Edmund Burke said all that is needed for the forces of evil to triumph is for good men and women to do nothing 政治家埃德蒙.伯克曾說過邪惡壓制正義只需要善良的男男女女們坐視不理，無動于衷

　In my nervousness for this speech and in my moment of doubt,I’ve told myself firmly, if not me,who? If not now,when？ 在我為演講忐忑的時(shí)候，在我懷疑自己的時(shí)候，我堅(jiān)定的告訴自己，我不挺身，更待何人，此時(shí)無為，更待何時(shí)

　If you have similar doubts when opportunities are presented to you,I hope that those words will be helpful,because the reality is that if we do nothing it will take 75 years or

　for me or to be nearly 100 before woman can expect to be paid the same as men for the same work 如果當(dāng)你面前有這樣的機(jī)會，而你也有次困惑的話，我希望這句話能對你有所幫助。因?yàn)槭聦?shí)上，如果我們無所作為，那要等上 75 年，對我來說甚至是將近 100 年，才能期待男性和女性實(shí)現(xiàn)同工同酬

　15.5 million girls will be married in the next 16 years as children and at the current rates,it won’t be until 2086 before all rural African girls can have a secondary education 接下來的十六年里將有 1550 萬女孩，尚未成年就被迫嫁做人婦，而按照現(xiàn)在的進(jìn)度，要直到 2086 年才能讓所有的非洲女童都接受中等教育

　If you believe in equality,you might be one of those inadvertent feminists that I spoke of earlier，and for this I applaud you 如果你懷有平等的信念，那你就可能是我之前提過的那些“無心插柳”的女權(quán)主義者。如果是這樣，我會為你鼓掌

　We are struggling for a uniting word,but the good news is that we have a uniting movement.it is called HeForShe.I am inviting you to step forward to be seen and to ask yourself

　“If not me,who？If not now,when?” 我們?nèi)卧跒樘煜麓笸�而奮戰(zhàn)，但好消息是我們現(xiàn)在就有一個(gè)打一統(tǒng)的行動，這就是 HeForShe。我誠邀你們，挺身而出捫心自問，我不挺身，更待何人，此時(shí)無為，更待何時(shí)。
